Helping Hand

Coaches, Mentors and your Inner Circle

Do you have an accountability partner? A mentor? A Coach? Who are your Trusted Advisors? This question is always timely. As leaders, business owners, partners, teachers, entrepreneur's, athletes, etc...it doesn't matter what field you are in, you have either written or unwritten goals, ideals and aspirations for your life, your family and your career.

So how do you get to where you are going? Or do you? What motivates you or pushes you forward? Many of us never do get to where we hope to because we don't have a concrete plan or roadmap, never mind someone who can poke you and prod you along the way.

Let's face it, we all procrastinate on some level, we all have ideas that never come to fruition. In my experience throughout my lifetime, I have learned a few things, most of which has NOT built my character or my drive.

The nuggets of truth and wisdom that have inched me forward have often come from my mentors, Coaches and accountability partners.

We are not wired to manage or exist alone. None of us is as healthy or whole alone as we are in connectivity with others. Who comes into your inner circle is f utmost importance. How do you discern who gets into your inner circle of trusted advisors? are all trusted advisors automatically your friends?

A few criteria to consider:

Trustability? Do you trust this person implicitly? Do they have a proven track record of trust in yours and other relationships?

Accountability? Are they also willing to be held accountable in their own lives? Will they tell you the truth even if you don't like it? Will they call you on it if you say you are going to do something and you haven't?

Confidentialty?

Do they keep a code of honour with you and others on confidentiality? Every single time?

Wisdom?

Are they constantly seeking to grow and learn and apply what they have learned to their own lives? Have they given you or others words of wisdom in the past that have proven themselves?

These are just a few things to think about.

Another consideration is that a mentor may come into your life for "such a time as this". They may be there to sew into your life and help you grow as a leader or in a particular line of business that they have experience in.

An accountability partner is often a spouse, a friend or a sibling.

A Coach is usually someone you pay to help you or you and your spouse/partner/friend/parent/team keep moving forward. You don't have to be stuck or in conflict to experience the benefit of coaching. Coaching will help you discover or mine knowledge that you already have, help you uncover answers to your questions and help you to go deeper into your own awareness.

Which of these do you have in your own life or business?
